STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) challenges help reinforce physics topics learned in class. For example, when we will learn about motion, Newton's Laws, and Forces, it is awesome for students to be able to design and build a device that takes all of these concepts into account to protect an egg that falls from the second story. What better way to teach about energy, energy transformations, and energy calculations than with a roller coaster you built? Mousetrap cars are the fan-favorite. Students build their cars, and using slo-mo video technology are able to analyze the cars motion. When is it moving with constant velocity? When is the car accelerating? Can you design the car to move forwards and backwards? Help me take my students' learning to the next level!
