A Tone Bar helps all students, but more specifically students on the autism spectrum, play an Orff instrument without the stress of having too many xylophone bars to process at once. Orff instruments are a great way for all children to explore and create music. The low frequency of the contrabass tone bar helps the music stay together by forming a bassline for the Orff ensemble. An Orff Ensemble is when we have Orff instruments (xylophone, metallophone, shakers, scrapers, drums, etc.) playing together either by using unison rhythms or ostinato rhythms. This helps the students improve their rhythm, pitch, and all-around music acuity.
