I will use these books to read to my first grade ELL students before we start a new unit. They will help my inner-city ELL students develop their background knowledge of the new topic. These read-aloud books will be a spring-board to an introductory discussion of what the students already know about the topic and what they want and need to learn. These beautiful books will enable my ELL students to make a connection to the topics being taught and the world around them! My students will learn about the world of Science, ELA, SEL and Social Studies by reading Folktales, Fantasy stories, fiction and non-fiction stories. Their knowledge of the English language will be enhanced by having these stories read to them.
