Students imaginations are enormous and without limit! However, sometimes our resources to bring these ideas to life are limited. These maker space tools and equipment will give these students a chance to not only enjoy the process of creating, but apply their learning in meaningful ways. I want to innovate education, and this is partly done through applying learning to the real world. This maker space may be the spark a student needs for a future hobby, passion, or career! All materials will be kept at school. Some projects will be led by students curiosity and passion. Others will replace and enhance outdated forms of assessment as students creatively show their understanding of our grade level standards. The Maker Space is a place where all types of making will be valued and affirmed. This is reflected in STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). Utilization of the 3D printer exposes students to all 5 aspects of STEAM! Lego movie kids will get students showing their understanding of curriculum through use of technology and arts. Perler beads and ironing supplies, along with our already attained sewing machine, allow students to create and explore arts and math through measurement. Electric circuits are an important part of the 4th grade science curriculum but combine these ideas with engineering and technology. A dremel and balsa wood will allow students to engineer products while thinking about the artistic, visual aspects. You can see that all items in this cart will meet student curiosity and combine elements of STEAM to offer incredibly meaningful learning!
