Cinderblock walls, inherited furniture, and fluorescent lighting are the first things my fabulous fourth graders see when they walk into their homeroom class ... Classroom rugs to the rescue! Rugs can bring a room to life with bold patterns, bright colors, and cool, cozy vibes, or even an exciting theme like a knowledge tree for a "Happy Camper" room. My students are diverse and love having fun seating options while they work together on assignments, discussions, and projects and most importantly, when they listen to read alouds. After a non-conventional year of dealing with Covid restrictions, social distancing, and either sitting in old-fashioned rows of desks or learning at home this year, I want to offer more flexible seating options. Fourth graders are a wiggly, social group of kids, and having an additional seating option other than the tables they share with 3 other friends will help them to focus and collaborate better during group work and discussions with each other. When children are comfortable - they learn better!
