The aquarium I am requesting is going to replace one that has been used for 20 years. In partnership with a local hatchery, we have tried to assist with a salmon recovery program. Although we are unsure if our "babies" actually make it to adulthood, we do know that teaching students about their life, their habitat, and their difficulties will make a huge difference in future preservation. Children remember things they are invested in. By providing them the observation of the salmon life cycle and the eventual release of salmon into a local creek, this memory will hopefully make them more aware of future behaviors. They will become better stewards of our lands and oceans.
