Many of my students struggle to understand grade level material as they all read 2 or more years below their same age non-disabled peers. The Read 180 program gives them access to a variety of books, including those used in the general curriculum, on their reading level. An important component of the program includes time for independent reading during each class. In the past, I have always used a couch but with COVID this is no longer safe because of social distancing requirements as well as the inability to sanitize between classes. Sitting on the floor or at a desk can be uncomfortable which can make it hard to concentrate. My students need comfortable, flexible seating to assist them in relaxing so they will be more able to focus on their reading materials.
