Many of my students are non verbal. They often communicate using visual prompts and gestures. Many come alive when in the dramatic play area. They are able to make food or clean dishes. They are able to play with other students, regardless of skill set and ability. Almost every Pre-K and Kindergarten classroom has a dramatic play area because studies show that at their age, play is how they learn best. In addition to the academic and social aspect, the dramatic play area also help students learn life skills they can take with them their entire lives!
