Can you imagine what a layer of ONE MILLION milk and juice cartons look like? A carton takes 50-75 years to decompose in a landfill. At School #33, we have 1,200 students, pre-K to 6th grade, of which over 90% receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Rochester has one of the highest concentrations of families living in poverty in the country. Our students face many challenges and they need something that they feel they are a part of. Part of their education is learning to look beyond themselves. Citizenship in their family, classroom, ,school, and ultimately our world is part of what we teach in the Common Core curriculum. Energy conservation and recycling are a part of being a good citizen of the world.
