We will use certain books at school. The students will also be able to check out other books throughout the school year and during the summer. My teaching philosophy starts with the notion that one must be able to critically read in order to critically write. We will be annotating while reading, so students learn to analyze and dissect the text to gain a greater understanding of it. I will also have group lessons where the students can draw things about the characters. By using different learning techniques (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, reading/writing) I hope to reach all students. Once they are able to understand the story they will write a research paper for two of my classes. In my creative writing class, we will read short stories, before the students write their own unique stories. They will also use notebooks to journal because writing each day is essential.
