So many kids come to school hungry. Even with the free food program that schools now offer some of them just don't fit in and prefer to stay away from the crowded cafeterias. All kids who are part of the Mentors Carte program get two snacks a day, so finding these snacks is critical to the program. The idea is that they come to my room to get a snack it gives me the chance to see them and talk to them and see how they are doing mentally and physically. I also let them tell me how their day is going. We also provide support to the kids outside of school time by connecting them with various non-profits depending on what their issue is at the time. We also give them school supplies, clothing when they are not up to dress code, and hygiene products they might need.
