My students are getting into the independent reading projects and need books to use. We also use these books for their First Chapter Friday activities where I introduce books to the students by reading only the first chapter of a book to spark their interest. Students have been enjoying the first chapter Friday activity because they are able to hear books they might not have picked up on their own. The books that I have chosen for this project will help relate to student experiences and interests that they bring to the classroom. I want to inspire them to read more and they will be able to borrow the books and take them home to get additional reading time. The introduction of new books also helps with their own story writing when we do story starter bell-works.
