Many of my students have sensory needs that impact their learning when those needs aren't met. This may look like a student getting out of his/her seat for some movement, flapping hands in front of his/her face, covering his/her ears in the classroom, and pinching oneself to name a few examples. By providing sensory tools, we can help the students' needs be met which, in turn, allows the student to focus learning. We know that if a student has needs that aren't met they are not able to focus on learning. They are in survival mode and will do what they need to in order to meet the needs they have. My special students have more capabilities than limitations and these sensory tools will help them achieve success in the classroom.
