Students will record transactions that affect assets, liabilities and owner’s equity all while making sure the accounting equation stays in balance. Financial statements can be created which will allow them to be more confident in reading and understanding a financial report. Monopoly will increase student engagement in the learning process by making it real to them. It will help students to connect what they are doing in class to actual life in the business world. Understanding a financial statement will help them know if a business is successful so they can make an informed decision before investing their money. If they want to start their own business, it will show them how to project their finances to determine if a business they want to develop is a viable idea. Something everyone needs to know is how to determine their own financial health before applying for a mortgage or getting a car loan. In short, this is a practical subject that everyone should learn while in high school. These board games will help students understand how accounting is used by everyone.
