The materials I am requesting are to help make learning concrete and creative for first graders. Young children learn concepts with handheld materials. For example, learning place value requires seeing what tens look like compared to ones. Students can then progress to semi-concrete learning where they can draw out the concepts. This, in turn, will help them build a foundation for future abstract thinking. These items will be in the classroom in bins on our shelf. But also can be divvied out to take home if learning goes remote in order to keep children safe.
