My students come from a wide area of the Richmond southside community. We have wonderful and supportive families and our students have diverse interest. Many of our families are economically disadvantaged. We have a high population of students for whom English is not their home language and a high population of students who struggle with reading. I strive to create a community classroom that fosters student engagement in determining the purpose for their education and independent learning. I believe that if we give students access to a variety of reading opportunities and allow them to pursue their own interest then we will create life long readers and learners who will contribute to creating a better world!
