For most middle schools in Chicago, visual arts is the elective of choice. However, at our school, we see an opportunity for our students to expand their thinking through performing arts. My Theater class is currently being introduced to monologues. We practice in class and create videos online. In order to get our creative juices flowing, we need costumes/wigs, and props! Transforming the space would be meaningful to myself and my 7th grade scholars. Our lounge area will be used as a calm corner for students who need time away from classmates or simply relax during independent work time. This will enhance my teaching practices and give me the opportunity to plan outside the box, while giving my students a new experience and appreciation for theater!
