Please help me provide culturally relative books for our underfunded library in an elementary school on the West Side of Chicago. The shelves are lacking high interest texts that will engage readers by connecting with their own experiences. We have a shortage of content with African Americans as the main character, hero or protagonist. When students can connect reading to their everyday lives, reading will become a joy. Students will be allowed to check the donations out from the library and immerse themselves in reading. The skills they acquire will be more effective and meaningful and help develop life long learners.
