This Kindergarten listening center will help students hear a fluent model for reading, develop critical listening skills, and hear books above their reading level. Children at the age of 5 need to spend time with real books and listening to multiple readers model how to read with fluency. This is why it is not enough for the teacher to always be the only one reading to the class, students need to hear someone else reading fluently. Listening centers introduce new vocabulary and new conventions of language that students later incorporate into their fluent speech. After a listening center comes into the classroom, it's really exciting to see the difference!
