Middle school is such a difficult time; it's a time of change and self-discovery. Many children need a safe space to feel supported and accepted during these years, especially those that feel differently. This year I will be starting the first ever GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) at my school and would like to turn my classroom into that safe space of belonging and honesty- of celebration! All friends are welcome, but the focus will be discovering and supporting our authentic selves. This will require starting with pronoun pins, a classroom library of LGBTQ novels and graphic novels for reading and discussion, journaling, flags of representation, and friendship!
