"While graphic novels can help struggling readers, by offering visual cues to help decode the text, they are also excellent texts to engage the most avid of readers." - Michael Barltrop This book will support students' reading goals and provide a different way to work on reading comprehension during literature circles and activities. I have chosen to use a graphic novel in our classroom based on 3 things: student IEPs, student interest surveys, and alternative education classroom structure. Because each student has different needs, these books will be purchased for each person in the classroom to read independently and in small or whole groups. With these new books, my students will be able to read independently at their own grade level. It will support their reading literacy needs by allowing the visual cues to fill in gaps in their understanding of the text. It is also a book that will interest my students into exploring literature and read more independently. This project will support them and enrich their daily learning.
