I am SO EXCITED to have students back in the school library on August 30th. I love talking about books with kids and browsing the shelves together and we haven't been able to do that in a long time. There's just something magical about the moment a kid connects with a book. The right one has the power to transform a reluctant reader into a voracious one! Help me welcome my students back to their school library with 460 new, high-interest, diverse books! As a librarian, the best way for me to support my students' literacy development is to stock the school library with books they'll actually want to read. Many books on this list are student requests or the next title in a popular series. It's incredibly important for students to see themselves represented in books and to build empathy by reading about characters with different life experiences and viewpoints. To that end, I also focused on selecting books by LGBTQIA+ authors and authors of color, as well as books that feature diverse characters and experiences. Your donation will go directly toward the purchase of books I've handpicked for the library, and we take care of our books at my school. I'll apply clear packing tape to the cover of each book to increase durability so these books can be enjoyed by students for many years to come. I hope you'll consider supporting my school library! I know this goal is ambitious, but my kids deserve to return to a library stocked with new, exciting, representative books when they come back to school.
