First grade students need to express their thinking by using their hands for building and creating in addition to writing. LEGO's and Playstix will allow the students to use thinking skills, predicting and retelling. Marble Runs are just fun! By working with a partner or small group, develops interpersonal skills when creating/retelling a story or designing a building or scene. All students need hands on materials. This year I have 15 boys and 3 ESL students! They need to be able to move around while learning how to develop relationships with others. In addition to using literacy, the students will use math to problem solve, measure or estimate. The students will use devices to investigate life cycles of plants and animals then create the habitats.
