Each day I read a story to my students to share the joy of the story while teaching the building blocks of reading. This is called read-aloud, and many lessons are taught from these key books that are used over multiple days and multiple readings. This is one of the students favorite times of the day, and they love to hear about the stories and discuss the ideas. Children need to see themselves in our books and in our daily lessons. My students have diverse backgrounds and cultural identities. They need to know that their families, traditions, and cultures belong in our classroom and can teach all of us.
