Having a comfortable environment with sensory tools and coping resources available is essential in my office as the school psychologist. Not only do students come to my room for regularly scheduled appointments, but for in the moment supports which may mean having a quiet place to comfortably de-escalate, somewhere to get their "wiggles" out without disrupting a class, or a place to be taught healthy coping mechanisms with the coaching of a school psychologist. Having these hand held sensory manipulatives and flexible seating options will quickly turn a simple office space into an atmosphere where elementary kiddos can explore what types of tools are effective for them to support their overall capacity to learn!
