I am the parent Involvement coordinator on my school campus. I teach our refugee families parenting classes. We talk about the importance of showing love to their child and bonding with their children. One of the classes that I will be teaching my parents this school year is how to cuddle your child and the importance of showing your children love and support. This starts at such a young age I want them to be able to have the hands-on lesson. Studies show that after birth, activities such as rocking and bouncing are important for infant development. Rocking is the most effective way to calm and soothe a baby. Sensitive parents naturally rock and rhythmically sway their babies, promoting stimulation and secure attachment. There's a reason for that. Rocking a child helps establish a healthy heart rate as well as good blood circulation. The rocking motion helps the child feel secure and therefore has a calming effect. By rocking a child, we are fulfilling his social-emotional needs. this is what I will be teaching in my parenting classes.
