My 8th grade STEM students take a leap into more rigorous projects during their third year of STEM at our school. Part of that process is learning computer-aided drawing. With a 3D printer available in the classroom, my students can see their CAD-rendered designs become a tangible project that they can keep and/or use. Most of my students have some connection to manufacturing in our community, primarily because it is where their parents are employed. 3D printing and CAD design bring a glimpse of modern manufacturing technology to my students. I want them to grasp these cutting-edge concepts and see that they can have a prosperous future right here in our community.
