As a lover of books, I want to pass on this love of reading to future generations. Competing with electronics is difficult, but I am confident "if you build it, they will come". These items will create a space where my students will love to relax and read during their center time. I dream of a day where I have too many students pushing to get into the reading center instead of lining up for the iPad and Legos. Knowing that our youngest generation has some difficulty communicating with peers makes reading all the more important. Reading books improves vocabulary and self confidence which will lead to stronger conversational skills and improved communication. Reading has also been shown to place our brains in a meditation-like state and brings many of the same health benefits. With all the stress our young people are enduring at this time, many need this escape to make life bearable. Please help me make this amazing classroom reading nook a reality!
