When young children begin school for the first time, they need to feel safe and supported. Starting school for the first time is scary enough, when language and communication are a barrier the transition from home to school becomes more challenging. Our district has over thirty different documented languages. Oftentimes, we have to discuss sensitive/private issues and when we don't have a physical translator readily available (who translates appropriately) if we have one at all, makes working with students and families difficult and time consuming. This language translator will allow us access the needs of the students, as well as support them in the home. I will be able to communicate in real time with parents and caregivers, to address the social and emotional needs of the children. We will be able to work together for the best interest of educating our children.
