Learning about community should include all types of communities. Students come from different backgrounds and the literature should match those backgrounds. By seeing the impact of someone that a student can relate to, gives that student a better idea on how they can also bring about change in the community. By using rich, inclusive literature students feel connected to the learning. When a student is connected, they make gains both academically and behaviorally. Ultimately, this literature helps bridge our community because our students feel they can relate to the lessons in the classroom. When this happens, students can take the learning and apply forward to their own lives. Win-Win!
