Hello! I'm a new teacher to the School District of Philadelphia. The classroom is relatively small with little supplies. Thankfully, there are tables and seats the students can sit at, but the classroom is short on supplies. The students will use the supplies on the list daily and throughout the school year. In the classroom, students are free to explore new ideas. In order to engage students in all possible opportunities, they need these supplies for their classroom. For instance, play-based learning is student-led where students develop cognitive skills and language acquisition skills. The writing utensils will be necessary for students to develop their fine motor skills. This also creates an opportunity for creative expression through drawing and writing. Students can use any of the arts and crafts supplies for this purpose and more! With these tools, students develop a sense of empowerment and curiosity inside the classroom. The goals for students are to learn to work independently with a growth mindset. In order to achieve this, students will use the writing utensils to write in their daily journals. They can also use the paint to finger paint, draw, and write letters for letter recognition.
