Students are too quick to reach for games and social media during their downtime. I want to remind them that BOOKS can be just as engaging, or even more so, if they will just give it a try. Choosing books from a diverse classroom library can help expand student vocabulary, syntax, and especially creativity. Once they see it used in their reading, students will be able to evaluate the author's techniques, make connections to similar uses in other forms of writing, and feel more comfortable applying it in their own writing.
