Sometimes our students come to school obviously in dirty clothing, sometimes our students have backpacks that smell like dirty ashtrays and are crusted with grime, sometimes our students will wear the same hoodie/jacket the entire season without obvious laundering. With the acquisition of this washer/dryer combo we can make certain the kids clothing/items are clean. We can do this with discretion as to not embarrass any child. Several times I have taken backpacks home to wash, the last time being an instance where the child had just lost their parent. With the washer/dryer combo the child will not have to wait, it can be done in a day. The take-home can be a lesson in hygiene, self esteem, and also home economics.
