Our special education classrooms have traditionally used paper and pencils as the main tools to learn new academic skills. In the past year, however, when all of our students were learning virtually, we searched for an online program that would be engaging for all of our students, but also helped to increase their academic skills. iXL is a digital platform that allows students to work at their current levels while challenging them at higher levels. With iXL as a practice and mastery tool, students significantly increased their skills in reading and math, with all students meeting or exceeding their academic goals. Over the past year, parents indicated their children were choosing to learn new skills on iXL over playing video games and watching TV. iXL is a unique, highly engaging platform for all students. Unfortunately, our school district and school are unable to provide this resource to our students this year. Providing this program for our students not only gives them opportunities to achieve, but also gives them access to the technology they will use in the future.
