THE PROBLEM: I have groups of 4-5 students and each have different sounds to work on. A group of 4 students each has different sounds to work on, so one may need a /k/, another needs /L/, someone else needs /th/, while a forth child needs /r/. They need pictures with their target sounds so they can practice talking correctly. Research shows children need to say words 75-100x correctly for months to improve. Groups are seen weekly, back to back, to fit them in. With an iPad loaded with apps, my students will learn to change "do buh do eeduh doe" to "two plus two equals four" or "it cold time" instead of "It is snowing outside." THE SOLUTION: The iPad has apps with picture cards of the sounds they need to practice. The /k/ sound has pictures of "cub, cone, and cat." The APP puts the pictures into memory games so the students are excited to practice their good speech. An iPad would allow each of the students to practice independently without having to wait for the other students. (To clarify, these specialized apps are only available on the iPad and will be used at the school. I have the apps but need a device). BONUS SOLUTIONS: The iPad also has APPs that can help with grammar, reading stories, reading comprehension, social skills, saying nouns, verbs, and adjectives, and more. Students can communicate better with this device.
