In my self contained special education classroom, most of my students have a language learning disability and are reading anywhere from second to third grade levels below their current grade level. Direct and explicit reading instruction will be so important for my students this year. The table and storage cart will help me meet with small groups to work with differentiated intervention groups. Students will be able to use the materials during small group as well as during individual practice. The books will be great for class read alouds, independent reading and partner reading. This will also help students improve their fluency skills. My reading instruction is taught through a multisensory approach and these materials will be helpful in this instruction. Students can use the whiteboard and dry erase markers to practice phonics and spelling skills. Pop it toys are popular with students right now, and they can use them to learn by sounding out individual phonemes! Students in my class also benefit from break time and flexible seating. The stand-up desk and fidget toys pack will be great options for the students based on their individual needs throughout the day.
