My students are immersed in a world that is dominated by technology that continues to rapidly advance while the environment around them declines at an alarming rate. Margaret Atwood's novel Oryx & Crake grapples with the same issues these students face. This is a beautiful and stunning example of speculative and science fiction, encompassing moral quandaries related to corporations' control over people, advancements in science, environmental decay, inter-personal relationships, technology's role/control in people's lives, and more. Students of varying abilities will be able to access, relate to, and reflect upon the themes and motifs in Atwood's work.
