While most of my students enjoy learning math, many become overwhelmed by the mathematical calculations that come along with it. Having a calculator would help lesson this anxiety and allow students to apply formulas and concepts they are learning. Unfortunately, the majority of my students can't afford or want to try to use their cellphone calculators, which can provide much distraction during class. These scientific calculators will be used by my Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus students everyday, to conquer this anxiety while solving tasks and problems as a team, that do not require a graphing calculator. Here group members begin to learn the roles and methods that future mathematicians use in college and beyond. Having a basic tool like a scientific calculator would allow students to not simply solve problems, but to model problems, as well as use real numbers and data that require computation. These students would also be able to use these calculators in their science classes throughout high school.
