Teacher-led instruction, read aloud, peer-to-peer reading. Identify themes, plots, rising action—create a new book cover using poster board and markers. We will be writing lots of essays. For example, what qualities make a hero? Is Harry a hero? If so list those qualities you share with Harry Potter. Write your own last chapter ending of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Explore how failure or rejection can teach us resilience. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book was first rejected by book publishers dozens of times. She never gave up her dream, and I want my students never to give up on their dreams.
