I would like to have the students form 3 dimensional shapes with the modeling clay. With the actual shapes in their hands, we can then explore how rotations effect a 3D shape. Cross sections of the 3 dimensional shapes can easily be produced by cutting the shapes and then repeated for different viewing angles. When the students can actually hold and feel the shapes of the 3 dimensional figures, they will be more likely to comprehend the process of cross sections. The manipulation of the clay allows the process to be repeated for different shapes.
