Our school does not have funding for new books, and our bookroom is full of texts from the traditional high school canon, which does not match the experience or perspective of many of my students. This class set of books would allow my students to read literature that is written from a unique perspective. Long Way Down is an epic poem, and students will read, analyze, and discuss the text. They will also construct a personal poem or song within the unit. They will have a voice after all these months of feeling lonely and unheard.
