I choose a jungle/safari theme to get the students excited and "wild" about attending school physically amongst the anxiety, etc that some face coming back to school. It makes the the classroom environment more inviting for them to learn and feel comfortable since the Covid pandemic has struck. We are focusing on connecting through SEL (social emotional learning), therefore building rapport as well as making the environment comfortable and a fun environment will help the transition back into school. Not only do I teach ELA but I also conduct SEL lessons in my room. I want the kids to be able to open up more to be able to readjust!
