Reading will offer an opportunity for my English Language Learners to practice their emerging English when writing, listening, or speaking about a story that they are captivated by. Graphic novels provide a visual narrative to increase understanding of emotions, character personalities and plot. Writing a letter to a character, creating a play characterizing part of the novel, illustrating and captioning an alternative ending are activities that illustrated books can offer. The products are a creative, student based springboard to their English emersion. A digital version of TIME will provide rich real world current events, with translation. My students are eager to read aloud, the smaller articles accompanied by pictures and translation will foster language and discussion.
