Our library is in an older building and we are in the process of creating a more inviting and engaging environment. Most of my library shelving is old and against the wall. Younger children struggle to access books when they can only see the spines, and because many of them are in the process of learning to read or learning to speak English, the book covers give them clues about the content. A rolling book cart will allow flexibility and provide opportunity for primary grade students to see the covers of the books as they explore the titles in the cart. The floor sensory path is directly linked to Pete the Cat which is a popular book series. The path will allow students to release energy, relieve anxiety, and enjoy a fun walking track on the way to their next learning space. This will be one way the library will support Social Emotional Learning for our children.
