Flexible seating is popular in schools right now because it WORKS! Students love having options other than a basic chair to sit in. My students with ASD are extremely active and require constant sensory input and regulation. Having these non-traditional seats to work in will help them by being able to move and fidget whole learning! Students will get to choose which seat they want, which helps build confidence and independence because they are so often limited in the number of choices they can make for themselves. Giving my students flexible seating provides them with the chance to focus on their work and to learn more because their bodies will be busy.
