One thing we do in my class each week is students read silently for 30 minutes from a book of their choice. This has helped many of my students discover a love of reading and improve their read fluency and speed. I don't have a lot of books in my library that students can choose from, which is why I decided to do this project. The books I am asking for are well written, relevant, and many of them contain messages that would be meaningful to middle schoolers. With more options, I will be able to help my struggling and reluctant readers find books they will enjoy. The roll of laminate will be used to cover the books so that they last a long time. The whiteboards will help me better assess students on topics we learn in class. The prizes will be used to help motivate students to succeed and share more in class.
