Second graders use manipulatives to conceptualize amounts within 100. They take large numbers, break them up into easier parts, and put them back together to find a sum. Using 100 of any small item can be problematic as pieces become lost, broken or overused. The rekenrek has 100 beads, organized by both 5 and 10. The beads stay on a rod keeping them easily accessible for on-the-go computing and need little to no time to organize. The rekenrek keeps materials organized and fun! Second graders will be eager to learn with both organized and accessible class tools.
