Students need to build awareness of what music is, what it can mean to them, and how it can have an impact on their lives. By introducing children to musicians of all cultures and providing instruments for them to have access to experiences, the spark of possibility and imagination begins. Children must have an understanding of how all cultures, including their own, have significance in the world of music and learning. This understanding gives confidence and power to a child's desire to pursue their dreams. Sharing stories about musicians of different cultures and giving children opportunities to experiment with instruments provides inspiration and excitement that can lead to a lifelong love of music.
