As a teacher, I think our main goal is to introduce students to experiences that they've never had before through literature and hands on learning. I'm always trying to get my students to share in the love of reading. Each child is a reader once they find a genre that they love! I want to inspire my students to become life long readers through an amazing story of how refugees end up settling in America. In class, I would use Refugee as a novel study. Students would participate in reading the novel, sharing class discussions, interviewing, quizzes, integration of social studies, and various hands on projects demonstrating sixth grade ELA standards. At the end of the novel, my goal is for students to be proficient in ELA Literature Standards as well as have a new appreciation for cultures and individual life stories. Thank you for helping our class!
