In setting up my counseling office this year, I have focused my theme on mindfulness, and learning related skills. My bulletin board is covered in "take away" flyers with mindfulness and meditation skills for various stressors. It would be extremely beneficial to my students to be able to have a comfortable, relaxing space to practice these skills in my office, and then be able to take these skills back to their classroom for better social/emotional self-regulation. It is so important for students to gain the ability to understand and acknowledge their emotional health, and by working with me in my office, students will have the opportunity to do so in a safe, peaceful, comfortable environment. The concept of "feeling comfortable" in my office is especially important now, as attending school during a pandemic caused much uneasiness about the school environment for many of my students, so a big focus this year is on comfort and security.
